Grit and Women in the Law
In spite of the fact that women outnumber men in American colleges and law schools and account for roughly half of the U.S. labor force, the under-representation of women in top leadership positions has led to much research on the obstacles or barriers that prevent women from ascending the corporate ladder in the same numbers as their male counterparts. Rather than focusing on what prevents women from succeeding, this program will explore the body of research that seeks to understand what successful women lawyers have in common with the goal of learning from their experiences and understanding more about what it really takes to succeed in today’s complex and evolving world.
Specifically, Dr. Hogan will focus on two critically important traits that successful women lawyers share:
- Grit, defined as perseverance and passion for long-term goals, and
- Growth mindset, defined as the view that one’s most basic abilities (including intelligence) can be strengthened and developed over time.
This interactive program will educate participants about the science behind these traits, provide them with specific tools to assess their current levels of grit and growth mindset, and use science (and storytelling) to offer practical, engaging ways for participants to incorporate these concepts into their personal, professional development strategies both now and in the future.

Life Skills and Growth Mindset
Running a law practice, billing hours, satisfying clients, keeping partners happy (at work and at home), and raising kids... lawyers already have a lot on their plate. How do we also make sure we stay hydrated, keep healthy and move? How do we do this when we are bone tired, battling burnout and feeling a little dead inside? How do we get back to feeling like ourselves when it feels like there is absolutely no time to do so? It is time to take yourself off the backburner. It is time for you to feel alive again and to practice law and be at home with joy.
In her one-hour presentation, Wendy will teach you her tools for success so that you can be successful at work and at home. Wendy will give you some easy, do-able, takeaway tips that you can implement the next day so that you get back to feeling like “you.”
