I write this, my final President's Message, on the day after the 2023 Legislative Session has come to an end. I'd like to pause for a minute and reflect on our legislative goals.

Tort law, as it relates to constitutional violations, details the balance between the protection of an individual’s liberty and property and the realization that defendants are needed to perform necessary and useful functions in society. This balancing act has evolved over the last 245 years, but the conflict continues.

The Writ of Habeas Corpus is one of the oldest principles of criminal law in the United States yet its modern use is oft-misunderstood, oft-misapplied, despite being critically important.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court released its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (JWHO) declaring that there is no federal constitutional right to abortion. 

The LLC currently consists of a mere 243 members who support our legislative work in Annapolis and bear the responsibility of going up against large armies of lobbyists, insurance executives, business owners, and physicians in white coats.
